When it comes to designing a tin can, there are several different factors to consider when choosing a metal die. The thickness of the casting will also depend on the complexity of the die and its geometric complexity. Further, a complicated die may provide additional resistance to the flow of heat.
A steel-rule die is another type of metal die. It can be used for softer materials such as sheet metal. The steel-rule die's cutting surface is the edge of a strip of hardened steel that is positioned with a laser-cut groove in the platen. The steel die will press into the workpiece, which is usually the male shape. Several identical cavities can be formed using multiple cavity dies.
